There is a large difference between an atheist and and antichrist. An atheist is one who lacks belief in Any supernatural beings, state of personal being, and essentially asserts that life has no purpose, we are merely here as a product of the evolutionary process. An antichrist can have variances in definition, but is basically one who is against or attempts to draw away from the followers the Jesus of Nazareth, of first century Palestine. The typical use of the word antichrist is in reference to THE antichrist, who is presumed on a biblical basis in dispensational theology to be one and the same with the "abomination that causes desolation" from the seventh chapter of the book of Daniel, through potential parallels in the synoptic gospels and in the Revelation of St. John. It can be used in this sense to declare someone as being immensely evil in their actions. The person's labeling as an antichrist is generally irrelevant, except in dispensational theology where the antichrist is presumed to be an agent of Satan. This view is common, but not the majority, or necessarily of orthodox origin. While eschatology is a hotly debated topic within the Christian church, careful investigation of the biblical text will reveal that in fact there are multiple antichrists.

I applaud the eloquence of the first to answer. Might I sugest a much simpler way of expaining the answer to the question. An Atheist is one who does not believe in any kind of deity, while an anti christ knows there is such a being but then denighs or comes out in open rebelion of his exisitance.

What is the difference between an atheist and free thinker?

An atheist is simply someone who does not believe in a god or gods. A freethinker is someone with a philosophical viewpoint that holds that opinions should be formed on the basis of logic, reason and science and not authority, tradition, or other dogmas. So, while the term "atheist" only answers the question of belief in gods, the term "freethinker" describes a person's philosophical viewpoint. In short, yes, you can be both an atheist and a freethinker.
