A museum is a much more permanent structure containing artifacts. An exhibition gallery is used to display artifacts that are related to each other. The exhibition gallery is moved from one museum to another, much like the artifacts found in King Tut's tomb.

What is the difference between an art gallery and museum?

An art museum is an art gallery of sorts, because it puts pieces in galleries for people to see. One large difference is that galleries tend to focus on contemporary artworks with living artists, while many museums focus on protecting older artworks. Another difference is that a museum often has a much larger collection, it will own more pieces than it can display at one time and will keep many of the pieces it displays.
