That's only part of it. Brown bears are larger than black bears. They have different habitats. Brown bear sub-species include the grizzly bear.

They are two different species.

Black bears are widespread basically all over North America up until the lower half of Canada. Grizzlies are mainly located in the West, NOT in the East.

Black bears are smaller.

There are several races of the brown bear, of which the grizzly is one. The brown bear is larger than the black bear. They also have a pronounced hump on the shoulder, that the black bear lacks. the difference are also the colours and shape of the bears

brown bears are much biggar and have straightish claws to dig up roots and stuff, while black bears have curved claws to climb trees
