You play a brass such as a Trumpet, Trombone, tuba, or French Horn instrument by buzzing your lips into a cup shaped mouthpiece. You play percussion instruments such as snare drums, bass drums, bongos, xylophones, or timpani by striking them with your hands, sticks, mallets, beaters, or by striking or scraping them with brushes.

Percussion, yes Marching Bands do have more percussion. They also use trumpets where in the brass band the cornet is used.

Brass bands in their traditional form are mainly confined to the British Isles especially in the north of England. There are also similar bands found in the Netherlands, Norway and in the former British Colonies such as Australia and New Zealand. In other countries a brass band is often encountered in association with the Salvation Army.

A brass band is also quite rigid in its choice of instruments and number of players. To confuse things further brass bands do march. A chaotic competition still takes place every year on the Friday before Whit Sunday in villages where Greater Manchester, Yorkshire and Derbyshire meet.
