There are lesser known forms of creationism that are still in existence as well including geocentrism (the belief that the world is the center of the universe and everything revolves around it). Geocentrism is still believed by 18% of Americans.

The least known form of creationism (believed by only 1% of Americans) is flat-earth creationism, the belief that the Earth is flat and there is a world-wide conspiracy to cover up that fact.

Answer:

In its simplest form, you could argue that the debate is all about cause and effect (an effect must have a cause).

This is common sense and no one has ever observed an exception. That every effect must have a cause is a self evident truth, not only for those who have been trained in logic, but for thinking people everywhere. No effect is ever quantitatively greater nor qualitatively superior to its cause. An effect can be lower than its cause but never greater. In stark contrast, the theory of evolution attempts to make effects such as organized complexity, life, and personality greater than their causes; disorder, non life, and impersonal forces. Creationist believe God can be demonstrated logically to be the uncaused first cause.

There should be little debate between creation and evolution, as they are essentially compatible. Creation does not require evolution and, more significantly, evolution does not require God.
On the other hand, God could have chosen to use evolution. The evolution response to this is that there ought to be two non-overlapping magisteria, with creation and all to do with the natural world belonging to the magisterium of science and all that is to do with our spiritual side belonging to the magisterium of religion. In fact, some of the major Christian denominations have ceased to debate this issue and have declared evolution to be compatible with religion.

Where there is strong debate is between science and creationism, a term that goes beyond just 'creation'. Creationists generally fail to accept any hypothesis that does not require God's direct involvement. Young-Earth Creationists go further and oppose the Theory of Evolution because it is incompatible with what they regard as a literal interpretation of The Bible. For them, it will not matter what facts science presents, the world can not be more than six thousand years old, and man can not have evolved because, after all, we are descended from Adam and Eve.

According to the theory of Evolution, life developed by random processes, especially mutations.

The narrative of Divine Creation, which is contained in Genesis ch.1 and 2, states that God created the universe. This teaches us that God exists, that our lives and the world are not random, and that the created things may be assumed to contain vast wisdom in their beautiful and purposeful design. (In recent decades, this wisdom has indeed been partially revealed, through increasingly powerful microscopes.)Evolution through random mutations, on the other hand, may be understood as implying that life is an accident, that perceived beauty and wisdom are ultimately purposeless, and that our instinctive yearning for the Eternal is just an electrical impulse in our brain.
