The Ascending colon which contains the cecum and appendix and carries the food from the ileocecal junction up the right hand side of the abdomen to the transverse colon. The transverse colon is the middle part of the colon and runs from the top right to the top left of the abdomen. The third part is the descending colon which taked the food from the top left of the abdomen down the left side of the abdomen tothe sidmoid colon. The final, and often overlooked part, is the sigmoid colon which is the S shaped part that connects the descendgin colon, in the bottom left of the abdomen, to the rectum in the middle posterior.

There are four main subdivisions to the colon. The ascending colon, the transverse colon, the descending colon, and the sigmoid colon.

The ascending colon travels up the right side of the abdomen until it reaches the level of the right kidney. It then turns at a right angle (known as the right colic flexure) and travels across the abdominal cavity as the transverse colon. It then bends at a right angle again (known as the left colic flexure) and continues down the left side of the abdomen as the descending colon. The colon then enters the pelvis and becomes the 's' shaped sigmoid colon.

You get infected with 1 bacteria cell. 24 hours later how many bacteria cells will your body have?

Empirically, you may get something in the region of 6,291,456.However, if you assume 3 divisions per hour, that means there are 3 x 24 = 72 different divisions.The number of bacteria that there are after n divisions is 2n. For example:After 1 division: 21 = 2After 2 divisions: 22 = 4After 3 divisions: 23 = 8After 3 divisions: 24 = 16etc.So, the total number of bacteria after 72 divisions will be 272 = 4.72 x 1021.See also:If_bacteria_divide_every_20_minutes_how_many_will_there_be_in_1_hour
