A virus known as the human immunodeficiency virus (or HIV). First people get infected with HIV and then after a while (sometimes years) they develop AIDS or acquired immune deficiency syndrome. When the person has AIDS they are more susceptible to diseases which healthy people can fight off better such as tuberculosis and many other Infectious Diseases.

HIV is not a disease, it's a virus. HIV causes AIDS. HIV (virus) can be passed when fluid of body parts of an infected person comes into contact with another person's fluid (viruses can only survive a short amount of time outside a host). this can be passed through the reproductive system or from blood (people with AIDS can't donate blood and they have to be careful if they use needles).

AIDS/HIV can either be transmitted through sexual contact, or through transmittance of blood. As in, sharing needles, or becoming blood brothers.
