First off, I'm very proud of the fact that you are one of the few men that really cares how someone else treats their wife! Very proud of you.

Your wife is a mature woman and she should be handling this and not you! You have the right to communicate your feelings to your wife about her friend, but by interferring you are not allowing your wife to deal with this on her own level and enabling any weakness your wife may have in her character makeup. If your wife is too passive then tell her to start kicking some butt with her friend or you will! Give her the chance to learn to stand up to her friend. If your wife doesn't tell you that she is handling the situation in her own time and is on it like white on rice, then that's when you take her friend outside and tell her you don't appreciate the way she is talking to your wife! Then you should start encouraging your wife to speak up for herself when people are disrespectful towards her. This could be a flaw in her character.

I had a long time friend that was actually my husband's cousin that had the worst manners when she came to my home. Some of it I would let slide by, but when my husband would come home from work and she totally ignored him after he said hello I blew a fuse and told her when she was in my home she would clean up her language, clean up her messes (such a kleenex, mugs, plates) and that if she ever dismissed my husband in such a manner again I would kick her skinny butt out of my house. She didn't come back for awhile, but when she did she had changed for the better.
