I'm a pupil, and my maths teacher makes up random stories about maths, like this lion thing for translations of graphs. It makes it easier to remember and it is funny. During the lessons talk about thing not to do with maths for a few minutes half way through, this give pupils a tiny break, and they will work harder after. Also, before major exams just make them do a ridiculous amount of practice papers. Most of all just treat the pupils like adult and enjoy what you are doing.
