A 2nd Step food by Esbilac has the consistency of a cereal and yet is not difficult to mix up like breaking down dog food would be. This topic is covered in depth in the article below. Added: I use a mixture of baby rice cereal, puppy can food and puppy milk replacement. I use a very soupy consistancy and gradually make it less liquid and cereal and more canned food while adding hard kibble.

According to the "Animal Advocate" William Cusick:

"The primary food sources in the Boxer's native environment were whole oat, rye, pork, and poultry. I recommend a blend of these food sources as an ideal diet because they are high in fats, fiber, and trace minerals. Conversely, the worst blend would consist of fish, soy, rice, beet pulp and horse meat or its by-products."

I personally also add: goat milk and goat yogurt, organic cultured cottage cheese (Nancy's) with chia seeds and/or ground flaxseed, pureed pumpkin, egg ground with eggshells, nutritional yeast, oyster shell, sea kelp, and lentils.

A good way to go around this issue is to combine raw diets with dry dog food ones. The BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food or Bones and Raw Food). This kinds of foods that make of the BARF diet includes raw meat and raw meaty bones, muscle meats, raw processed vegetables, offal, fish, eggs, fruit and dairy products. Some owners tend to give their boxer dogs yogurt as a way to keep them healthy. The big benefit with BARF is you don't have to give them dairy or grains if you see they can't handle it or don't want them to have it.

Your vet can prescribe a special one if it is a critical issue. Otherwise, find an all-natural dry food with good quality ingredients, such as lamb, sweet potato, and antioxidents, and mix it with a quality wet food (using the same brand for both is a good bet). "Wellness" is one of the dog foods that I would recommend.
