Contrast ratio is the ability of a TV to change contrast on the set. At this point in time (and referring to HDTV's) at least 40:1 or better is probably preferred. I'm sure that'll improve as technology improves.

You can't just change the aspect ratio of your tv. The original aspect ratio will always be the same for your TV. However, you can choose to stretch the image to fit your TV screen, but it will become distorted.

I would say 4:3 is the best for. It also depends on if it is for printing or for viewing on a TV screen. You should also look at the print size and the screen size.

The typical width to height aspect ratio for a widescreen television is 4:3. It varies depending on the brand and overall size.
Vizio 42" Plasma HDTV is best at this budget. Its picture quality is marvelous, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 1024 x 768 resolution, HDMI input etc. But only TV cannot provides the real taste of TV entertainment.
