Multiple processor systems allow you to run multiple programs at the same time. Generally this means a system-wide boost in performance (when compared to a single CPU machine).

This is especially true when you have one program that takes a lot of CPU time and would normally bog down your whole system. On a dual core machine, you have a whole other processor free to run your other, less intense, programs.

on a single core processor, if a program crashes, the system hangs while waiting for it.

on a duel-core processor, the program has use of one core, leaving the other core free for other programs, such as Tssk Manager, so the dead program can be closed.

An Intel Core 2 Duo processor, as the name implies, has two processing cores on a single die. Software such as operating systems are designed to take advantage of this fact and can actually run two processes at once (simultaneously) on the same chip.

A dual processor can mean two things: that it has two processor, or one processor that has two cores. PCs with dual processors are generally faster than those that only have one processor.
