This very important characteristic is called the atomic weight. It represents a weighted average of the naturally occurring isotopes of an element. When a quantity of the element is weighed, the different isotopes - and the relative percentage they comprise of the whole - are accounted for. This makes for accurate readings in laboratory measurements.

Yes... it is called the mass number. Some call it the atomic mass or atomic weight but i believe atomic mass is the total count of the neutrons, protons and electrons in an atom. But the atomic mass usually refers to the count of neutrons and protons and the electrons being the decimal usually. although i suppose if there is enough electrons they could bring the mass up more than just making it a decimal...

The "atomic mass". If the mass is expressed in units of grams as is usual, the mass would be called "gram atomic mass." Sometimes, especially several decades or more ago, the value defined in the question was often called the "chemical atomic mass" of an element, which was contrasted with the "physical atomic mass" of a single isotope of the element.

It is the Atomic mass.

Yes but it is not really an average massbecause some isotopes are more common than others.

What are atoms of the same element with different numbers neutrons called?

'ISOTOPES'. The definitive statement is ' Isotopes of the same element have a different number of neutrons'. NB Do NOT confuse with 'Allotropes' . Allotropes of the same element exhibit different physical characteristics. The elements Sulphur and Phosphorus are the two classic examples of allotropes.

What are atoms of the same element but with different masses?

Atoms of the same element that have different masses are called isotopes of the element. The presence of different numbers of neutrons in the nucleus is responsible for the existence of isotopes of an element.
