The above answer seems to have been submitted by a child/teen. Babysitting, like any variable time job should require being paid on an hourly basis or on a lump sum basis that accounts for time, travel, etc.

I don't have stats, but a babysitter should get paid around $10/hour at a minimum. This would be for basic "stay at my house while my kid sleeps" services. An active sitter that runs errands, entertains, cares for well being of child should expect more as this is a skilled, specialized service.

5 bucks is well below minimum wage, and is simply ridiculous. No ones time is worth that little, especially when they are responsible for a family's child and home.

The hourly rate for babysitting varies widely. I came across one woman who wanted to pay $5.00 an hour for someone who would not only watch her kids but entertain them. depends how wealthy you are. my friend babysits and one day she babysat these kids who's parents have extreme money and she got 60$ an hour plus a pair of 16 carrot gold earrings. then the next week she sat kids who's parents were average and she got 5$ an hour. Another only paid 1 dollar cause they were extremely poor. so it depends how much money you have,how good a job they did, and how rich you are!
