The information I found shows that a child must either reach 19 years of age, or have a high school degree, in order to be considered at the age of majority. The legal age of majority for Virginia is 18. If the person turns 18 before graduating from high school he or she must finish high school as required under the state's compulsory education law or have parental consent to drop out.

You can choose the parent you want to live with when you are 18. Minors are not allowed to choose in any state. In some states they are allowed to voice their opinion but the judge is in no way obligated to follow the minors wish. It's either your parents or the judge who decide.
