What are unicore processor and multicore processor?

Quite simply, a Uni (Single) core processor has only a single primary calculations core. A Multi (Dual, quad, hexi, etc) core processor has more than one primary calculations core.

Is it better to choose a fast single core processor, or a multi-core processor that is fractional slower?

Multicore is best for most functions now but if speed is the most important thing than you would go for the fastest.

Is a dual processor CPU better?

Whether or not you get any benefit from a dual core processor over a single core processor depends on what operating system and what programs you are running. Newer operating systems (Windows 7, Mac OSX) do use multicore processors. Also, using multiple programs on a computer will better utilize a multicore processor. In short, yes it can make a difference for today's average user.

Which a term given to a computer type that utilises more than 1 processor?

Multiprocessor, as opposed to Multicore, which is more than 1 core within a single physical CPU.

Is the multicore processor the most important hardware component in a computer?

Not really, the vast majority of computers ever built had only one CPU (i.e. core) and thus functioned perfectly well without a multicore processor.

What sort of improvement do you get going from single core to dual core quad-core or hex-core or higher?

Multicore processing improves processing speed

Is Performance of single processors better than multi processors?

Depends on the OS runnning and also the type of applications to be run on the system. I think on lighter processor loading, the single processor will perform better than a multicore due to the management software required for multi cores. However, when the processor load is increased, which by the way has always been the case in the past, then the multi core is in a class of it's own. This is of course assuming that the software was written correctly to utilise multicore bandwidth effectively. JPT

Each core in a multicore processor counts toward the maximum number of processors that Windows Server 2008 supports true or false?

False

What does the multi-core processor do?

Literally that, a processor with Multiple Cores. This means the processor has mutipule fully functioning or discrete processing units, capable of handling the functions typically associated with the CPU.

What is a Quad Core processor?

Four independent cores into a single package composed of a single IC. A dual-core processor contains two cores, and a quad-core processor contains four cores.

What is example single core processor?

An example of a single core Processor is anything from Intel's first processor to the late Pentium 4 era. There are also some single core Pentium Core 2/duo line products but those were very cheap for consumers.

Does HTC Desire S have a dual core processor?
