An ion is an atom which is not neutral i.e. it has excess of charge on it. There are two types of ions:

  1. Cation:- These have positive charge on them. They are formed when an loses electrons and protons exceed their number.
  2. Anion:- These have negative charge in them. They are formed when an atom gains electrons and no. of electrons exceed the no. of protons.

What is the Definition and formation of cations and anions in Telugu?

Cations and anions are formed through the process of ionization, which involves the gain or loss of electrons by atoms. In Telugu, cations are known as "క్యాటియన్లు" (Kyaṭiyannlu), which are positively charged ions formed by losing electrons. Anions, on the other hand, are called "ఆనియన్లు" (Āniyannlu) and are negatively charged ions formed by gaining electrons.

How is electron affinity different from electrontivity?

Electron affinity is related to the formation of anions; electronegativity is related to the formation of cations.

A anions and xenons b anions and cations c cations and xenons d xenons and anions Which of these are ions?

The ions are b, anions and cations. Note that xenon is not an ion, it is a noble gas.

Do anions and cations share electrons during ionic bonding?

Yes anions and cations share electrons. Anions gain electrons and cations loose electrons.

Are anions and cations ion?

Yes. Anions are negative ions and cations are positive ions.

Which tool would be used to find information on which cations or anions will replace other cations or anions in a chemical reaction?

A displacement table would be used to find information on which cations or anions will replace other cations or anions in a chemical reaction.

Do alkali metals generally make anions or cations?

Cations.

How do you tell apart cations and anions?

cations, positively charged ions, can be told from anions, negatively charged ions, bysize--cations are smaller then the average atomic mass of the element --anions are largertype--cations are made from metals --anions are non-metalsorder--cations are always listed first in a chemical equation

What is the general word for both cations and anions?

The term "ion" can be used to refer to both anions and cations.
