What I do at the shop is fold abusiness card in half . Put it in between the Coil and Flywheel. Bring the magnet around to Coil and tighten screws down. Perfect gap!

An ignition coil requires external electrical power. A magneto requires only mechanical power to create an ignition spark. If an engine HAS no electrical power (lawnmower, tiller, chain saw) then a coil would not function.
For most small 4 cycle cylinder engines using a magneto and a coil to provide electricity to feed the spark the gap is .006 to .010.
You remove the 10 mm bolt on the coil pack and unplug the coil. you may have to remove an hold down too to get to #2 or #3 easy to do remove coil by pulling the coil pack setting aside use spark plug socket and a extintion your good
remove it, get a new one and find out what the gap setting is for the one you replace/ your size engine
