Christians are called to love Atheists just as they are to love everyone else. They are supposed to show them about Jesus (and Christianity) by leading a good, happy and joyful life to show them what being a Christian truly means and what it can bring to them.

Today in many countries atheists are relatively free to live as they please, yet in general they are still met with suspicion and mistrust. Atheism has been baselessly associated with every conceivable evil. In antiquity it was quite common to call someone an atheist who didn't believe in the local deities, so that Jews, Christians, and Pagans have alternately been accused of atheism. When ancient Rome adopted Christianity as the state religion under Emperor Constantine and his successors, people accused of atheism were brutally treated, some mercilessly beaten and killed, by the followers of the religion of love. Christians hate atheism because it calls into question the Christian object of faith. Christians believe that atheists are fundamentally evil and employed in the service of Satan, which could not be further from the truth. What it ultimately boils down to is faith versus reason, and given a choice between faith and reason the atheist will always choose reason, and the Christian, faith. Though Christian theologians have many times tried to harmonize reason and faith, it is ultimately impossible, and so the fundamental hatred of atheism continues.

Atheism is everywhere in modern society. There is no country in the world where atheists can not be found. Atheism is less common in poor, emerging nations where some still hold on to ancient traditional beliefs, while others follow Christian missionaries who assert that atheism is not an option in a civilised country.
