Melting is the transition of a substance from the solid to the liquid phase. Sublimation is the transition of a substance directly from the solid to the gas phase without passing through an intermediate liquid phase.

Sublimation is the process of a solid transitioning directly to gas/vapor without going through a liquid phase. Dry ice "evaporating" (actually subliming) is an example most people are aware of.

Deposition is the reverse of sublimation, i.e. a solid depositing directly on a surface from the gas phase without first condensing to a liquid.
