President: William Henry Harrison (1773 - 1841)
Term: March 4 - April 4, 1841
Background: Harrison was born in Charles City County Virginia to a wealthy political family on the Berkeley Plantation. He was the youngest of seven children. His father, Benjamin Harrison V was a planter who also served as a delegate to the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1777 and also took part in the signing of the Declaration of Independence. On top of that, he was also Governor of Virginia from 1781 to 1784. His mother's name was Elizabeth Bassett. He was the last president who was born of British citizenship. He attended Hampden-Sydney College at the age of 14, but was later removed by his father because of the fact that he supported anti-slavery and became involved with Methodists and Quakers. Later on, Harrison then studied medicine under Dr. Benjamin Rush at the University of Pennsylvania. Harrison did not like this profession, but once his father died in 1791, it left him no money to purse further education. Once his mother died in 1793, he inherited a portion of the family's estate. He then sold this portion to his bother once he entered the army. During the army, he took part in the Northwest Indian War. At the end of 1797, he became Secretary of the Northwest Territory after he resigned from the army. Harrison became the first delegate representing the Northwest Territory in the Sixth United States Congress in 1799 at the age of 26. He strongly believed in the Harrison Land Act. He was the first Governor of Indiana Territory from 1800 to 1812. He became a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio's first district from October 8, 1816 to March 3, 1819. Preceding this, he was the Ohio State Senator from Hamilton County from 1819 to 1821. He became United States Senator from Ohio from March 4, 1825 to May 20, 1828. Harrison was also Chairman of the Senate Committee on Military Affairs from 1825 to 1828. He then became the second United States Minister to Colombia from May 24, 1828 to September 26, 1829. He eloped with Anna Symmes on November 25, 1795 once he received the disapproval from her father.

Major Domestic Policy: Harrison untimely death made it impossible for events to occur. He was only in office for one month until he passed away due to pneumonia. He received pneumonia because his extreme Inaugural Address was during severe cold weather conditions. He was the first president to die during term. During his short presidency, he did promote and support unity of the country. He believed in that the American people should of the right to voice their opinions. The country at this time was continuously growing.
Major Foreign Policy: Although Harrison was not in office for long, he did promise to stay neutral and keep away from any foreign wars. Overall, he was not able to be involved in any foreign affairs because of his short presidency due to his death.

Intellectual and Social Developments: The economy was boosting and the industrial market was transforming. Factories where using high tech machinery. Canals and roads were being built. The Irish immigrants were accelerating and beginning to work in the factories.
Monroe's Legacy: Harrison is known for what he wasn't able to accomplish during his short term because of the fact that he passed away. He will be remembered for being a talented general before he was elected into presidency. Also, he was the first president to have his picture taken photographically. He was the first Whig president to be elected into office with the help of his propaganda. He will also be remembered for his well known campaign slogan "Tippiecanoe and Tyler too." Harrison's Inaugural Address was extremely long. During his Address, the temperatures were severely low, which gave the president pneumonia. This illness caused the presidents death about 30 days into his term. He was also known for wanting people to be able to voice their opinions. He believed in staying neutral and unifying the country.
