Seppuku and Harikiri is the act of comitting suicide, famously done by samurais, where the goal was to insert the small blade in the abdominal area and draw a square. The usual context of this act is shame, in the samurai era, shame to fullfill a purpose, protecting their master, family, bringing shame to the family name etc.

A ritual way to kill yourself (suicide) that was one of the most honorable thing you could do as a Japanese Samurai. Death takes a while so there is more pain as you stab yourself in the chest with a knife. To top that off someone from behind cuts off your head. It was used by warriors to avoid falling into enemy hands, and to attenuate shame and avoid possible torture.
