These are terms used in a punnet square. Dominant is the Phenotype, or a gene that is predicted to be expressed in a heterozygous being- the offspring of two beings with different traits. Recessive is the Genotype, or a gene that is predicted to be hidden in the Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid, (DNA,) of a heterozygous being. Sometimes there is Codominance, where both genes are fully expressed, or incomplete dominance, where the genes are mixed, and are partially expressed.

A dominant gene will hide the recessive gene. It is shown as a capital letter in the gene. (i.e. Rr, R is the dominant gene) In blood type, A is dominant over O. So if a person has Ao for their genes, they will have A type blood.

A recessive gene will be hidden unless there are two of the same recessive gene. It is shown as a lowercase letter in the gene (i.e. Rr, r is the recessive gene). In blood type, O is the recessive allele, so you cannot have O type blood unless you have 2 O alleles: oo.

If we were talking about eye colour and the blue eye gene came from your dad (recessive) and the brown from you mum (dominant) then the dominant gene would over power the recessive gene you would end up with brown eyes. That's just the basics it can get alot more confusing. Btw I was just taking a guess about which 1 is recessive and which is dominant
