  • Plagiarism (say: play-juh-rih-zem) is when you use someone else's words or ideas and pass them off as your own. It's not allowed in school, college, or beyond, so it's a good idea to learn the proper way to use resources, such as websites, books, and magazines.
  • Plagiarism is a form of cheating, but it's a little complicated so a kid might do it without understanding that it's wrong
  • Plagiarism is the act of using information you got from someone, or somewhere else with out saying where you got and therefore passing it off as your own ideas. It is about the worst thing you can do in an school or college setting. I know of a student who was deported for it. He was an exchange student from India, and when the university expelled him for plagiarism, his student visa was revoked. Here is the explanation of plagiarism from the Academic Honor Code at Tulane University.
  • Plagiarism--Unacknowledged or falsely acknowledged presentation of another person's ideas, expressions, or original research as one's own work. Such an act often gives the reader the impression that the student has written or thought something that he or she has in fact borrowed from another. Any paraphrasing or quotation must be appropriately acknowledged. Examples of plagiarism and inappropriate citation may be found via the page links, further down this page, listed under Related Links.

It's when you take some one else's work and copy it and don't give that person credit for their work. You just have to paraphrase ( rewrite in your own words) it. If you plagiarize then you can go to jail
