Ants can't stand mint. It's a great natural repellent. Mint also grows very fast, like a weed would, so you only have to plant it in a small space and it will soon take up a much greater space.

∙ 9y agoYes, mint repels ants since the insects in question dislike strong odors. The herb in question will release fragrances which leave with ants when they depart from their foraging, and the scent will not be welcome by the individual ants or any ants with which they interact.

∙ 11y agoNo, they actually don't. I tested this today and the fire ants did not seem effected. Other spices might effect the ants actions but not mint.
