There are multiple answers to this question, because there are multiple variations on lasagna. When I make a lasagna, I make either a two meat or a vegetarian "meat" variation. So, here's what's in the lasagna I make
1 box of lasagna noodles. If pressed for time, no-boil ones are decent.
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 medium onion, chopped fine
32 ounces of spaghetti sauce (I use Prego)
1 pound of ricotta cheese
2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup of parmesan cheese (fresh grated if I can get it. Otherwise, canned is fine)
1 1/2 pounds of 80/20 ground beef (sirloin or chuck)
1 pound of sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
1/4 teaspoon of freshly grated nutmeg
2 large brown eggs, beaten
fresh parsley
kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper, to taste
When I make the vegetarian "meat' variations, all ingredients except for the meats stay the same. I substitute 1 pound of Gimme Lean sausage (it's made of soy and actually almost tastes like the real deal), 1 pound of Gimme Lean ground beef (again, it's soy. I make it into little "meatballs") and a pound of sliced baby portabella mushrooms.
