The Capra film was a popular Christmas saga that is essentially an inversion of the Scrooge plot. Capra takes some liberties, instead of being Smug, the businessman, a banker, is contemplating suicide in the Yule tide, is visited by angels rather than ghosts of the tenses of time, but there is much similarity. very little juvenile appeal. Most people who have analyzed both see (wonderful Life) as a modernized Scrooge. What the devils is attractive about human foibles, anyhow?
It is essentially a reverse- take-off on the Scrooge theme- both involve businessmen- in (Life)- a banker, and in Scrooge a loan-shark or pawnbroker- both have morbid sub-themes- and occur in the Christmas Season.l There are those who argue that ( It"s a wonderful life) is in a sense an inverse of Scrooge- as instead of prodding his conscience- as the ghosts do in ( A Christmas Carol)- they ( called Angels in Wonderful Life)- dissuade the banker from taking his own life- It"s a silly story- and I don"t llike it.
The meaning is that not all is lost in war. If you shine light on it, then things can turn out OK. Okay, but not great
