It is very difficult to earn a full time living as a guitarist because there are loads of people out there who will perform for free.

The club/pub owner doesn`t care how bad you are so long as you bring in customers, so a dreadful free player who brings 10 customers is fine with the club.

Ever heard of a waitress working for free? Obviously they have more brain power than the average guitar player.

For that reason many decent players earn their main living as a teacher and do occasional gigs. Musician union rate is £119 per gig.
