the process where your body keeps your body temperature the same

ex. your teeth chatter when you are cold. muscles are quickly contracting and relaxing to keep your body warm.

Ex. you sweat when you are hot. the sweat keeps you colder

Homeostasis is best described as a maintainance of the status quo in the cell.

Everything in the universe breaks down. Some things break down slowly, like peptide bonds, but in the end everything breaks down. That means that energy needs to be used to fix it or to make a new one. Homeostasis is keeping everything working.

Cells need to regulate things like protein concentrations, pH, Ion concentrations and levels of waste materials. Some animals need to regulate temperature. All of this is to keep everything working the way it needs to be; homeostasis.
