Acid rain threatens a third of China; respiratory diseases are often fatal. Whilst coal is still used for almost 80% of China's energy supply, millions of lives are endangered. This scheme could replace up to 50 million tons of coal needed to supply the country itself, which means China would be able to export more of the coal it produces.
