These are the general procedures followed by airline staff when passengers are leaving an aircraft:

Generally before the seat belt signs are switched off, the doors are placed into manual position (de-activating the emergency slides).

The captain will then confirm to the cabin crew which door or doors will be opened to allow passengers to get off the aircraft. Once these are open, the most senior member of the cabin crew will pass over any paperwork to the ground staff and passengers will disembark.

Once all passengers have left the cabin, the crew will perform a search for any left baggage or personal items and hand them over to the ground staff. The aircraft will then be security checked by the crew. Once this is complete, crew will leave the aircraft, or if they are continuing on another flight, will allow the next load of passengers to board.

Some crews are also required to clean the aircraft in between flights.
