Sclerosis is the medical term for the stiffening of a structure. Like when the tissue of an organ is replaced by connective tissue. So in this case it would be the hardening of the audio. There have been several reported cases of audio sclerosis through out history but there has been much more documentation over the last 70 years. One of the earliest well documented cases of audio sclerosis is that of Elvis Presley. Before Elvis most audio was rather soft. But with songs like Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock audio really began to harden. Bands like Black Sabbath, Type O Negative, Marilyn Manson, As I Lay Dying, and Dethclock were also contributors to sclerosis of the audio.
