The First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects the rights of freedom of religion, press, petition, speech, and the right to peaceably assembly. The Amendment states that it guarantees freedom of religion, of speech, and of the press, and the right to assemble peaceably and to petition the government. It clearly states a person's basic rights to live in the United States of America. One of the major things it does is it prevents the government from controlling the nation and all its information. It goes along to state that the person has freedom to political speech as well. This amendment also separates the government from the church. This amendment is so very important, that without it, our nation would not be the way it is today. If someone were to say one thing bad about the person who runs the country, that person would possibly be arrested and jailed. Trial would not even help because before the amendment was made, trials were very unfair.

The First Amendment to the US Constitution is a part of the US Bill of Rights that expressly prohibits the US Congress from making laws 'respecting an establishment of religion', or that prohibit the free exercise of religion, or freedom of speech, or infringe upon the freedom of the press, limit the right to peaceful assembly, or limit the right to petition the government for redress of grievances.

Examples of the First Amendment would be a violation if Congress created a national religion or showed favoritism towards a particular religion. Another violation of the First Amendment is if a person were to be arrested for exercising their right to free speech concerning the legalization of marijuana or gay rights.

What do you think could make the first amendments more understandable?

There are many different examples of the 'st amendment. The March for Life in D.C. and the occupy Wall Street movement are but two examples. Here is the relevant wording of the 1st amendment: The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble.
