Zener diodes are widely used as voltage references and as shunt regulators to regulate the voltage across small circuits. When connected in parallel with a variable voltage source so that it is reverse biased, aZener diode conducts when the voltage reaches the diode's reverse breakdown voltage.
zener diode is for regulator purpose. it will maintain the constant voltage so we are using as regulator. we have to connect reverse bias then only it will act like zener diode if we are connecting forword bias it will act like normal diode..............

ordinary diodes allows current to pass in only one direction . the ordinary and zener diodes have alot of uses but the only common use for both would be that being able to convert ac current to a Dc current and the zener diodes use only when baised on the reverse voltage break down at a particular reverse voltage it can be used as a voltage regulator
zener iode is a special type of junction diode with different level of doping as compared to normal pn junction diode .... zener diode are used in reguled power supply to provide constant output voltage irrespective of change of input supply or load variations
it is always used in reverse bias the main advantage of zenerdiode is, it is used as a voltage regulator ie;out put voltage will remain constant when input varies
The zener diode is used for rectification and stabilisation.
A: It can be used as a cheap regulator and to save PCB real estate but mostly is used to protect or limit a voltage. Precision zeners however are widely used for references for ADC DAC
As a regulator.
zener resistance of a zener diode is the resistance of the zener diode but which is the resistance of a diode
The difference between the pn-junction diode and the zener diode is that the pn-junction diode is used for rectification while the zener diode is used for rectification and stabilization. Also, the zener diode can function in the breakdown region while the pn-juntion diode can not function in that regime.
The dynamic resistance of a diode, be it zener or otherwise, will be different from its static resistance because a diode is not a resistor, and resistance is not a function of current flow. It is a diode, and a diode has its own characteristic voltage to current curve, forward and, in the case of a zener, reverse.
zener diode :zener diode operates under reverse bias voltageideal diode :ideal diode operates under forward bias voltage
A zener diode cannot be used as switch.
zener diode is a revers bias diode which used for voltage regulation.
The function of a zener diode is for it to act as a voltage regulator in the breakdown region.

Also, the zener diode can function in the breakdown region while the pn-juntion diode can not function in that regime.
Zener diode is heavily doped pn junction diode.
The dynamic resistance of a diode, be it zener or otherwise, will be different from its static resistance because a diode is not a resistor, and resistance is not a function of current flow. It is a diode, and a diode has its own characteristic voltage to current curve, forward and, in the case of a zener, reverse.
A zener diode, in the reverse bias condition, presents a higher voltage. The current, however, is a function of the supplying circuit.

A zener diode cannot be used as switch.
Dr. Clarence Melvin Zener of Southern Illinois University invented the zener diode.
sharp reverse breakdown function
The leakage current of a (zener) diode is the current that leaks when a diode is connected in reverse biased.
