Sitting means "current" or "active" president. According to the smarties on StackExchange politics, it is acceptable, to call ex-presidents "Mister [lastname]", or "Former President", or even "Mister President" - even though they no longer have that role. Famously, Marilyn Monroe addressed a sitting member of the executive staff (President Kennedy) as "Mister President" in a happy birthday song, and most guys who listened to that.. well, their members were standing rather than sitting afterwards. ;)

A vice-president in a private company is any of several positions subordinate to the president or chairman. They would normally head a major department or functional management area.

In government, one or more vice presidents are the executives who are in the line of succession to a president's office. According to the country, they may have much authority or little authority. Their nominal role is to assume the powers of the presidency if the president dies, resigns, is removed, or is incapacitated.

In the US, the Vice President has one other Constitutional role, that of President of the Senate, where he may only cast a vote to break a tie. The Vice President is otherwise seldom present in Congress.
