A quartz will display six sided prismatic crystal with a six sided pyramidal termination. The crystal system is referred to as hexagonal in most reference material, but may be described as trigonal in others.
Quartz crystals are the naturally occurring crystalline structure of the mineral (quartz) with an atomic arrangement of silicon and oxygen, chemical formula SiO2, forming in the hexagonal crystal system.
Both crystalline quartz and glass may be man-made, and they both may be found in nature. They both consist of silicon dioxide or SiO2. The difference between them lies in their molecular arrangement. Quartz molecules, like those in all crystals, are arranged in a well-organized, regular lattice. Glass, on the other hand, is an amorphous solid. Its molecules are held in place rigidly (unlike a liquid), but their arrangement is disordered. Contrary to popular belief, a glass does not flow slowly in historical human time scales (i.e. in church stained glass windows).
Ordinary glass is hard to break with ur penis but quartz glass u can stick it right through
Quartz agate would scratch glass. Glass would not scratch quartz agate.
"Smelt Quartz" is commonly sold as a variety of quartz, especially from many eBay vendors. "Smelt Quartz" is not quartz at all -- it is common glass, which is made from melting quartz in the presence another compound (called a flux) which lowers the melting temperature. Glass is not crystalline, whereas quartz and other minerals (with few exceptions) are crystalline. Most people can't tell the difference, but glass is optically isotropic (doesn't polarize light) whereas quartz is anisotropic (polarizes light). Glass also has a lower density, which you might be able to detect by its heft, and "smelt quartz" usually has unnatural looking streaky patches in it."
Clean quartz sand predominates, modified by soda ash to lower the melting point. [For crystal glass, lead is added to improve the mass and alter the tone of the crystal. And as it is softer, it is easy to inscribe (cut) without breaking.]
To distinguish topaz from glass or quartzes (e.g. citrine), we should observe the hardness. Topaz is a fairly hard gemstone, meaning it is resistant to scratching. It is 8 on the Mohs hardness scale (diamond is 10, sapphire is 9). A scratch test will determine whether a stone is topaz in most cases. You can perform a scratch test by taking a piece of quartz or other material with a hardness around 7 and scratch it against the "topaz". If you don't want to risk the stone scratching, even if it's fake, you can choose to scratch it on the girdle (the unpolished rim around the gem). There is a lot more information on this site: http://www.shopgemstones.com/topaz-treatments-and-synthetics.html

Maybe lechatelierite? Or crystal (as in quartz glass)?
Silica or Quartz Crystal.
It is a semi-preaous gem stone
Quartz and glassy silica are both composed of the same elements in the same proportion. The difference is that in quartz is crystalline whereas glass is amorphous. This means that in quartz, the atoms are all ligned up in a regular repeating lattice. In glass, the atoms are arranged in a random way. This is analagous to the difference between a set of childrens blocks that have been stacked up nicely in regular rows, and blocks that are just dumped in a heap, and are arranged randomly.
Many commercially available crystal roses are made from Swarovski crystal a form of lead glass, itself composed of mainly Quartz. Tutorials on how to make your own crystal glass can be found on the web or bought in a completed form.
You will find quartz crystal being used in laboratory tubes and crucibles, ordinary glass, foundry molds and construction work, as a filter, crafted into a special lenses or prism and quartz glass tubes for lamps as well as in radios, televisions, radars and digital watches. Quartz is also a very important component of sandstone, quartzite and granite all of which are building stones.
Quartz would scratch the calcite. Calcite would not scratch the quartz. Calcite will react with dilute hydrochloric acid. Quartz will not. Calcite will exhibit double refraction. Quartz will not. If the crystal forms are intact, quartz crystal may appear six sided with pyramidal terminations. If they are of equal size, the quartz will be heavier.
LCD is Liquid Crystal Display, consisting of a thin liquid-crystal gel between two glass panels. LED 'Slight Emitting Diodes--also use liquid crystal gel for the screen, but the main difference lies in how the display is lit.
Eye glasses do not contain actual minerals because glass lacks a crystal structure. Most glass is made from quartz.
