living organism that shows the level of pollution in an area through changes in iys distribution or abundance
Lichens are known as pollution indicator.
biological indicator of air pollution is lichene. it is a best example of air pollution indicator.
An indicator is something, rather it be a person, animal, or plant, that determines how much pollution is in the area. Birds are a good indicator of air pollution.
The indicator is litmus paper. :)
lichen
Toilet flushing believe it or not is one of the main indicator of air pollution. Even if it has nothing to do with the air. Tiny particles ing the water come out of the it and rise up to through the air. I hope you believve me because it is 100% true . Thanks for reading.
Lichen are a good pollution indicator because they get their water and minerals from rainwater and the atmosphere. This makest lichen extremely sensitive to the atmosphere. As a result very few lichen grow in or near large cities with heavy pollution.
Indicator species can be used in one of two ways: * the indicator species is one which easily affected by the pollutant. Specimens are kept in an area and observed. When they show distress the pollution rate is climbing, and this happens before the hardier species are impacted. Think of canaries in coal mines. * When a biologist inspects an ecosystem he keeps track of the population and the species present. If only hardy (pollution resistant) species are present the ecology has become degraded. If sensitive species are present the environemt is still good.
It is an indicator of poor air quality from air pollution. This pollution is most often ozone or particulates. Typically it indicates that the air is unhealthy for children, the elderly, and sensitive groups.
Both E. Coli and PSA (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) are used to indicate pollution by raw sewage. The ratio of the two can be used to indicate if the sewage is of human or animal origin.
It depends what animal exactly we are talking about. Generally, animals are harmed by air pollution, however, certain species, indicator species that indicate high levels of pollution, can only survive in highly polluted areas.
Caddis flies do not pollute the water any more than any species. They are however a pollution intolerant species (a little bit of polllution kills them off) as a consequence biologist refer to them as an indicator species. If caddis flies are there, pollution isn't.
