∙ 15y agoIn many dioceses in the United States, when the pastorate of a church is open, a notice is sent from the Priests Personnel Board to all priests of the diocese informing them of the opening. The notice usually contains information about the Demographics, and the financial and sacramental standing of the parish. Any parish priest may apply for the position. The Priests Personnel Board (composed of priests elected by their peers and a chairman appointed by the local Ordinary diocesan bishop]) review the applications, and forward them to the Ordinary (diocesan bishop,) with their suggestions of which is the most qualified applicant. The Ordinary (diocesan bishop) has the final say, and the priest is appointed (usually for a six year term, renewable) by the Ordinary diocesan bishop).
