Recently I went to donate blood at a local blood doners. I was told my blood iron level had to be over 13 in order to give blood. Not sure if this is a percentage or what, but mine happened to be 19.5 which I was told was high, but not abnormally high. I was asked if I ate much red meat and I do. Hope this helps somewhat.

No way that a percentage! Your blood would be like thick wet mud if it were! It is some other measure, for sure.

the percentage of minimum normal value can be calculated by subtracting the reading level of the test result from the normal reference range and multiplying by 100%. eg .the reading of blood iron level in a pathology report is 7.5 and the reference range is in between 12-18 .subtract 12 from 7.5 and multiply the result by 100% and that is : 7.5-12: 4.5 calculate the percentage 4.5/12 *100% which is 37.5%

The ranges for a normal red blood count are expressed in million red cells per microliter (uL0 of blood. For women, the range is 4.2 to 5.4 million/uL while the range for men is 4.7 to 6.1 million/uL. Children's RBC range from 4.6 to 4.8 million/uL.
