A kea is a parrot native to the alpine and forested areas of the South Island of New Zealand. They're notorious for "attacking" parked cars and chewing up rubber like the windshield wipers and gaskets around the doors. They are also accused of killing sheep, but they may only be scavangers of sheep killed by other predators. The birds have the ability to kill other animals.
Like most parrots, they are highly intelligent and have demonstrated the ability to solve logic puzzles and use teamwork to accomplish tasks.
The kea is the second-largest parrot in New Zealand. It averages 48cm in length and 930 grams. Its head is brownish-green and its body and tail bronze-green or olive-green, while underneath its tail is dull yellow. Some blue can be seen on the wings and the tail. There is some red-orange colouring on its lower back and underneath the wings. The kea is particularly known for its long, curved beak.
The kea is a bird, and birds reproduce by laying eggs.
The HMHS Britannic supposedly hit a German mine and sank on 21 November, 1916, four miles off the Greek island of Kea in the Kea Channel.
