A group of herons is called a scattering, sedge or seige. If they are nesting, the nest area where they all get together is called a rookery. - They are also known as a hedge of heron.

Another name for a White Heron is Great Egret (ardea alba) also known as the Great White Egret or Common Egret or Great White Heron (which is not used now)

Other white herons are, snowy egret, cattle egret, the white phases of great blue heron and reddish egret, young little blue herons are also white.

The white phase of the great blue heron was the bird known as "great white heron". Info from R.T. Peterson's Field Guide To Eastern Birds.
