Consider creating a unique and intriguing main character with a compelling goal or mission. Develop a diverse cast of supporting characters to accompany the protagonist on their journey. Incorporate unexpected twists, obstacles, and challenges to keep readers engaged. And don't forget to include vivid descriptions of the setting to transport readers into the adventure.

A good story idea is one that makes you want to sit down and write. It excites you and intrigues you and doesn't leave you alone until you write the story. Good story ideas are not delivered gift-wrapped by your muse. You have to seek them out and develop them. A good story idea is uniquely personal. What is a great story idea for you may be completely uninteresting to someone else. That's because each of us has a unique personality and history. Write the stories that only you can tell.

AnswerOne that contains either Conflict and/or Character. You have a story with both or either but not lacking in both.

New "plot bunny" websites can give you good ideas for stories.

This question exposes a lot about the person who asks it. Rather than answering, I'd say that if you have to ask, put the pen down and take up knitting because writing is not your game.

The real answer to this is that there is no answer. Another, equally valid answer is that there is an infinite number of true answers to this. Can you hear the one hand clapping?

The worth of an adventure, or any book, is in the execution. Having a compelling idea is secondary to making it work through artful execution. For instance, there have been countless versions of elves running through the forest, trying to avoid or win a war through the intervention of some mystical thing. What separates The Sword of Shanara from the others is the execution.

"Dog Day Afternoon" is an example of execution over the idea. The idea is simple, but that movie rocked.

A personal pet peeve is "Reality Bending" or magic so powerful it just gets silly. If you have these things as a part of your story idea, give up. In any story, if anything can happen, there is no tension because there is always a way out for your characters.

Any idea that is interesting enough to you will be a good idea. You cannot write a story or novel based on ideas that someone else invents - you won't be interested enough in the subject to be able to research and write anything that will actually sell. Plus, anonymous people on the internet have no idea how old you are, what your interests are, or how well you can write!

In order to write, you need a personal connection to the subject. Write about whatever you enjoy, or whatever you find interesting, and you will end up with your novel or story.

WikiAnswers is happy to help you learn how to write better. We will not do your writing for you by giving you ideas and paragraphs to copy.

Here are some more suggestions from WikiAnswers contributors:

• Write about what you know. A good idea for a first novel is to write your own personal story. Everyone has at least one novel in them waiting to be written.

• Observe the world around you. Anything interesting can be an idea for a story or novel.

• Research. The more you know, the more ideas you will have.

• Read stories and books that other authors have written in your chosen genre. This way, you can see how other people do things.

A story can be either plot driven, character driven, or both. Most are stories are both but one or the other usually takes precedence. Charles Dickens' novels are primarily character driven Ian Flemings' are plot driven (although all the plots are the same.) If you need a place to start - trying thinking up interesting characters who can be developed and evolved against an interesting plot, or think up a good crisis that characters can be illuminated through.

An adventure or action story must have an exciting plot and characters that the reader will identify with.

Here are some things you can do to make your adventure more exciting:

  • Make vivid characters - think about Tarzan, Batman, or Zorro; each of these adventure characters is cleanly described by the author so that the reader has a vivid mental image of what they look like, what they act like, how they speak, and what they believe in.
  • Make believable plots - what is going to get your characters into the adventure or action part of the story? What is going on in the story? How can you think of a logical reason for the characters to be in this predicament and have all this adventure?
  • Give the characters motivation - there are basically six categories of motivation for a character - love, revenge, greed, duty, curiosity, and self-discovery.
  • Write believable dialogue - know how your characters speak, and write dialogue the way they actually would talk!
  • Start in the action - adventure stories don't need a lot of description or explanation at the beginning - just give enough information to show why the characters are where they are, and jump right into the adventure part!
  • Conflict - what obstacles are in the way of the characters as they try to reach their goal? Make these conflicts believable and not just coincidence.
  • Background - adventure stories are more exciting if they are set in a gritty, dangerous place - they don't have to be in some exotic foreign place, but they don't need to be in a nice, safe suburb either!

First, you've got to plan out the characters. What do they look like? What's their names? Then plan out how the wherever the characters are going to hike looks like. Does it have lots of mossy branches and thick trees?

Now think of obstacles. Maybe a bear tries to attack them? Maybe they get lost?

Remember to use descriptive words like:

Tiny, large, mossy, thick, foggy, scary, unique, weird, terrifying etc.

Also plan the story. Maybe three friends decide to go on a hike without adults and they get lost with a bunch of obstacles on the way? Or one person runs away Into the Woods and something happens?

Since it's an adventure story, make sure it's exciting and suspenseful. Use descriptive words!

Good luck, hope this helped!

Peace!

:)
