A contract on a mobile phone is when you pay upfront for the montly usage on that phone and anything above that will cost you extra , for example if you used 200 mins to call people and sent 600 text messages you would pay £35 this is normally paid by direct debit.

They give you an amount of texts and calling minutes possibly unlimited and if your phone has the internet, internet minutes again possibly unlimited.
You pay a certain amount of money each month depending on which contract you pick. Some contracts give you that's choice where you can get a free gift when you buy the phone. Usually the actual phone is free to buy but not always. The contract prices usually start from £5 going up. And your conract usually lats for 24 month (2years) I hope this has helped.

∙ 13y agoWhen you get a cell phone, it can be paid for a few different ways. Typically, you agree to maintain your service for a set period of time, generally two years. That's your "contract period". Cell phone contracts are rich enough that the carrier can afford to either give you a phone outright, or give you a great discount on the purchase - because you'll have paid WAY MORE than the price of the phone over the 2 years of the contract.
Other cell phones have no monthly contract, but are pre-paid, or are pay-as-you-go without a contract. No-contract cell phone plans generally have fewer features, or are more expensive, because the carrier can't shift the up-front cost of the phone onto your long-term contract.
