A Witch's Answer

Witchcraft, or the craft of a witch, or "the Craft" are the names given to a number of Earth based spiritual paths and/or belief systems. Commonly referred to as Paganism by a goodly number of its practitioners, it is a positive force guided and used for the betterment of the practitioner and those who have specifically given their consent to have that practitioner work for them.

We are as diverse a group as could be gathered under one umbrella term, and I can only speak for myself and members of my own circle.

Most of us gather eight times a year to celebrate and worship. These are seasonal celebrations known as Sabbats.

Some of us gather at the full and/or dark moon to worship and work. These are smaller and more personal gatherings known as Esbats.

Some of us have daily or weekly devotionals that we practice within our own homes and lives. These are very personal.

Each individual makes a personal choice how much, how often and what they will be involved with.

One of the fundamental aspects of my own spiritual path is the practice of magic. The manipulation of naturally occurring powers by the hand and will of an ethical practitioner.

According to Hollywood, that would be a broomstick.

But Pagans and Witches use a broom for the same thing everyone else uses them for, cleaning house, scooting the dog out of the garbage and chasing mice.

What you probably mean is what is witchcraft, and I will leave that answer to one of our regular Wiccan contributors.
