There's no such thing as "a" Tibet. Tibet is a country.
Tibet is a plateu region in Asia, the highest region on earth. Sometimes it's even referred to as the "roof of the world". Also, it's a very religious country. Religion is extremely important to the Tibetans and has a strong influence over the country and its people's lives. In fact, a lot of Tibetan art depicts Buddha or other visions of religious significance. The "Dalai Lama" is a well-known term for a lineage of religious rulers.
For a long while, however, China has owned Tibet, claiming that Tibet was originally a part of China. It was their excuse for invasion. This is a very controversial issue, especially considering recent archaelogical evidence that hints otherwise, but for the time being Tibet stays under China's rule

To be a country, it has to be accepted by other countries as being so. Currently NO countries in the world recognize Tibet as a country.
In fact, official maps from the West in the last few hundred years all show Tibet as part of China
In other words, Tibet has been part of China for at least a few hundred years. This would therefore invalidate the claim that China invaded Tibet in 1950.
