ANSWER: A Christian is a follower of Christ. In the original, the word Christian was coming from Christ and even in English bears a resemblance. The word not only meant that, but it meant also : being like Christ. The Bible teaches that if you want a life with God, free from sin and have eternal life you have to become a follower of Christ (John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.").

To become a Christian you need to accept Jesus who sacrificed Himself on the Cross as your Savior from sin and Lord of your life. You confess your sins to God, and repent from them. That is the start of your life as a Christian. Then you develop your relation with God by listening to Him. You need to know His will from reading the Bible and praying. In the Christian life there is also singing to God, praise, fellowship and others things described in the Bible. Christianity does not mean blind faith in some concept of a distant God but a close relationship with a loving God and a Savior God.

Some people believe a Christian is someone who has followed a plan of salvation involving: 1. Romans 10:17 (hearing the message), 2. Hebrews 11:6 (believing the message), 3. Luke 13: 3 (repenting), 4. Romans 10:9 (confessing "Jesus is Lord" publically 1 Timothy 6:12) 5. Acts 2:38 (getting baptized) 1 Peter 3:21. They believe you are saved by God's grace, and your faith, plus baptism. Colossians 2:12 Ephesians 2:8 we are saved by God's grace. Formula: your faith + God's grace= salvation.

Jesus extended the invitation to be his follower, saying: "If anyone wants to come after me, let him disown himself and pick up his torture stake and continually follow me." (Matthew16:24) Those who are true Christians have full faith that Jesus Christ is God's Son, the Promised Seed who sacrificed his human life as a ransom, was resurrected and exalted to the right hand of God, and received authority to subdue his enemies and vindicate Jehovah's sovereignty. (Mt 20:28; Lu 24:46; Joh 3:16; Ga 3:16; Php 2:9-11; Heb 10:12, 13) Christians view the Bible as the inspired Word of God, absolute truth, beneficial for teaching and disciplining mankind. Christian means Christlike, so Christians imitate to the best of their ability to be like Jesus Chris.

The belief of Christians vary widely to the extent that these are violent conflicts between various sects. Doctrinal issues range from the divinity of Jesus ( a prime figure in most Christian churches) to the position of Jesus' mother (Mary) in the hierarchy of Heaven. As there is no universally accepted definition of "Christian", this leaves the definition of Christian to be "A self described affiliation to parts of Biblical texts derived from Jewish texts."
