The X Factor is a television programme in 26 different countries starting with the UK. It was first broadcast on 4th September 2004.
The Judges are Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Danii Minogue
The former judges are Brian Friedman (Series 1) Paula Abdul (Guest Judge) and Sharon Osbourne (Series 1-4)
There has been five winners so far: Steve Brookstein, Shayne Ward, Leona Lewis, Leon Jackson and Alexandra Burke
The five runners up are G4, Andy Abraham, Ray Quinn, Rhydian Roberts and JLS.
There are five stages of the competition:
Producer's Auditions: Out of 180,000 contestants (Series 6) a number of good ones, bad ones, funny ones and sad ones are picked to perform in front of the judges and audience (Series 6)
Judges' Auditions: The four judges (Simon, Cheryl, Danii and Louis) choose a number good ones to go through to bootcamp.
Bootcamp: On the first day they are narrowed down to 100 and are split into four rooms (25 in each) Two of the rooms are picked to go through to the second day. They then have to perform again to find the final 24. The judges will get picked for each category (Groups, Boys Under 24, Girls Under 24 and Over 25s) and then will go to the judges Holiday Homes
Judges Homes: The final 24 acts will perform to their new mentor in a destination around the world. They will then be narrowed down to 12 for the live shows.
Live Shows: The final 12 acts will go out week by week. There are themed weeks. There are also celebrity guests who mentor and perform for the final 12. All the acts perform in the O2 arena in London and then the next night the bottom two perform again and the judges eliminate one of them. There are 10 weeks. Once there are five contestants left they perform twice each week. In the final the last three acts perform their favourite song from the series, a duet with a special guest and the final 2 perform the winners song.
Winner: Releases a debut single and around the time they won next year they release an album and a a couple more singles. Each winner gets to do three albums.
Contestants: John and Edward, Lloyd, Rikki, Rachel, Stacey, Lucie, Jamie, Olly and Danyl are left in Series 6
