Be careful when picking a VOIP provider for home use. There are providers that offer ridiculously low monthly fees in their marketing to get new customers. However, to support those low monthly fees, the provider installs software on the user’s computer that must be kept active in order for the phone to work. The software targets advertisements to the user based on such factors as what phone numbers the user is calling. Many object to this sort of intrusion and elect to pay a higher price to avoid it.
