Subject: Starbucks
You would think that businesses like this would support our troops, but i guess not, kind of selfish of them
Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to
let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they
send some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the Marines
thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does
nots support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send
the troops their brand of coffee.
So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not support them by
buying any of their products! I feel we should get this out in the open. I
know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that
doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting
street -to-street and house-to-house.
If you feel the same as I do then pass this along.
Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all be there again when I
deploy once more.

The company plans to buy one million pounds of this coffee at 'competitive' prices in its supposedly altruistic efforts to improve the living standards of third-world coffee farmers. They also usually don't make that much money, don't sell any of their products to big super markets like: Associated, Gourmet Garage etc.. Then Fair Trade buys their products and sells them to companies just like Starbucks. But, the good thing about Fair Trade Coffee is that when Fair Trade buys the coffee from the farmers, they are paying them more per pound. How Starbucks growth impacts small independent coffee shops?
Here is my experience as a small independent coffee-shop owner. I pay people from 9 to 12 dollars an hour to serve coffee and make some food items at my cafe. People love the cafe because it is French and we roast our own coffee. But we will never survive because there is one Starbucks three blocks away, and another is rumored to be going in about two blocks away. Although my coffees are FAR cheaper than Starbucks, the quality of the coffee FAR better, Starbucks is able to pay its overhead and get SO many people through the door with TONS of marketing. I feel like people go to Starbucks as if they were going to meet a celebrity--it's all about the "Starbucks experience" they've created. So, we are competing as best we can, but we have NO budget for marketing and no angel investors to provide that type of growth opportunity for us. Our quality is superior--no one argues that--but the locations and marketing they pay for give them all the volume they need! So, yes, we would do much better if the one Starbucks had never opened, and if the next doesn't. We will surely go out of business, soon.

if you want to work in an entry level position, it is better to work for Starbucks than grocerie' cashier or shopping stores, because Starbucks give you at least 1$ per hour more that other places + tip + benefits such as insurance+ every week's coffee. But it is not only making drinks or customer service, the main part of the job is cleaning, washing, ... which is very boring
