Answer 2
Protestantism refers to a branch of Christianity that split off from Roman Catholicism in the late 1500s. This movement, called the Reformation, was led by Martin Luther, Jean Calvin, and many others. Protestant denominations today include Lutheranism, Anglicanism (Episcopalianism), Baptists, Presbyterians, and Dutch Reformed, among many others.
Protestant is literally those who protest. It is any brand of Christianity other then Catholicism, and started as a protest against many of the catholic church's practices in the 1400s. The most known name of the Protestant movement is Martin Luther. (the namesake of Martin Luther King Jr)
Martin Luther pinned a list of grievances against the church including many things he and other people saw as wrong. Including the selling of indulgences. The selling of indulgences was the practice of putting a price tag on each of the deadly sins, and telling people "If you committed this sin, give us this much money and you will still go to heaven."
